Why Did I Pursue A Career In Real
Estate?
Why did I pursued a career in Real Estate?
I purchased two homes, over a three year period. During both purchases I
told the agents what I was looking for, yet I was taken to homes that did not
fit my parameters in any way. I also felt that throughout both
transactions no one took the time to explain the process to me or even return my
calls in a prompt manner! I knew at that moment that there was a need in
the Real Estate profession which was not being met.
I knew that if I just took the time to
listened to my clients, care about their concerns and responded to them when
they needed my help, I would be successful. When I bought my homes,
I could not get my agent to call me back when I had a concern or a question, and
if I did get a call it was from an assistant that had to relay all my questions
to the agent.
There are a lot of wonderful people in my
profession. I have met many new friends in this business. However,
the one aspect of this profession that I do not find enjoyable are the Real
Estate seminars that are held in our profession. I can tell you that they
all focus on one main topic. Make more money, give less service and last
but not least don't bond with your client. This business is a numbers game
and they teach you to list a home and put it on the market or sell a home and
get it in escrow, then turn it over to an assistant and then go out and get that
next listing or sale. Enough Said!
If our business is a numbers game, I can
proudly say that my numbers based on satisfied clients and new friends.

Real Estate Principals
I took Real Estate principals at College Of The Canyons. The class was
taught by Allen Shute. Allen Has since retired from teaching. I
consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn this profession
from a man I believe had great pride in our profession, and a little sadness
whenever he read or heard about improprieties in our business. It was not
uncommon for Allen to start a class by telling us about an article he had read
regarding some misconduct in our business. He was trying to show us that
we had to have integrity to be successful in this business. If we
wanted to make Real Estate our long term career, we had to protect our clients
interests and earn their respect. Thank you Allen.

Real Estate Law
I took Real Estate Law with at College Of The Canyons, also with Allen Shute.
This was a class in which we were given the opportunity to discuss real life
cases regarding Real Estate transactions that had problems. One such case
was the Easton decision, which lead to the Real Estate Transfer Disclosure
Statement that we use today. This class gave us the opportunity to learn
how to protect our clients interest and limit their liability.

Real Estate Appraisal
I took Real Estate Appraisal at College Of The Canyons from Steven
Hobbs. Again I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to learn an aspect
of my profession from an experienced appraiser. Steve has been a local
appraiser for many years and is respected in the industry. I feel very
confident in my ability to do a complete market analysis on a home and give my
clients the best value they can find. Thank you Steve.

Real Estate Finance
I took Real Estate finance at College Of The Canyons with Audrey Klapper.
Audrey was the REO representative for Home Savings Of America for several
years. She gave us an insight to how the major institutions operated and
the different advantages to the many finance programs they had. I have had
the opportunity to work with Audrey on a few transactions in our business and I
am grateful for that. Thank you Audrey.

I know that each of these teachers that I had the opportunity to attend class
with would tell you that I held very high standards for myself and my
grade. I can tell you that I still hold very high standards of myself for
how I conduct my business. You are the most important aspect of my
business!
